WHY VINEAUX?
In keeping with the spirit of paying homage to my family and upbringing, I am using a mix of the French and Spanish language influences in my life for my club descriptions.
For the majority of my elementary studies, I attended Convent of the Sacred Heart, a French school in the heart of San Francisco. One of the best decisions my parents could have made was sending me here, as it truly gave me a considerable amount of exposure around culture, art, music, athletics, travel, language and much more.
I began learning French while attending Convent as it was the sole second language offered until the 4th grade, at which time they also offered Spanish. As I mentioned in the “About” section of this site, my mother’s family is originally from the country of Panama, and her family spoke Spanish. As a child I was a bit, how can I say this? “Spirited.” I kept my parents quite busy and recall my mother “chatting” in Spanish about me with my grandmother, so I vowed that as soon as I hit 4th grade I would take Spanish so I could understand what they were saying about me! I didn’t quite learn enough in 4th grade, or even by the end of elementary to understand them well, but I eventually got there! I continued taking Spanish throughout high school & college, during which time I attended an exchange program in Madrid, Spain.
This is where my Spanish really became solid, but also where my initial love affair with wine began! With all of this said, in honoring both the French and Spanish influences in my life, I decided to give the club a French “style” name and the club levels Spanish ones. Now, wine in French is actual “du vin,” and in Spanish it’s “vino,” so I’ve just combined the two!
